Gluten-Free Cooking - the challenge

Is there a good gluten free bread out there?
How about a gluten free cake?

We're not talking cardboard and crumbs here, but real good-enough-for-anyone food.

I'll make my way through a variety of GF cookbooks; the first being one that Kate left behind, called Gluten Free Cooking for Dummies, and report on successes and failures.
